Last weekend, Shudder hosted by the surprise of the audience the streaming premiere of horror and comedy anthology Scare Package (2019), despite the official release date was the 18th of June. 7 tales of terror directed by 7 filmmakers, following the style of other popular anthologies like V/H/S (2012). Produced by Paper Street Pictures, Scare Package (2019) has taken part in several genre film festivals along 2019 where it achieved several nominations and awards. Sitges Film Festival, Telluride Horror Show, FrightFest London, Molins Film Festival, Splat!FilmFest Horror Film Festival, and Panic Fest were part of the run.
Created by Aaron B. Koontz and Cameron Burns, Scare Package (2019) is one of those movies where the festival of blood, guts, and splatter walks hand by hand with silly humor, a classic recipe in horror-comedies. In the words of Koontz, “I’m a big fan of anthology films but knew we had to change the game up a bit. So we gathered this hungry group of diverse, super-talented horror enthusiasts and asked them to subvert these well-known horror tropes while also paying homage to them. In the end, it made for a unique experience that I cannot wait for audiences to discover. They’ve never seen an anthology quite like this!”. It has been described by the filmmakers as a “splatter-packed, deviously clever throwback that pays homage to horror classics, exploring—and subverting—different genre tropes. All wrapped around every horror fan’s beloved stomping grounds: an old school video store”.
In Scare Package (2019), Chad, the owner of Rad Chad’s Horror Emporium, recounts a series of bone-chilling, blood-splattered tales to illustrate the rules of the horror genre to his newest employee.
Emily Hagins, Chris McInroy, Hilary and Courtney Andujar, Noah Segan, Baron Vaughn, Anthony Cousins, and Aaron B. Koontz are the 7 filmmakers behind this anthology. Noah Segan, Baron Vaughn, Chase Williamson, Jocelyn DeBoer, Jeremy King, Dustin Rhodes, Zoe Graham, Hawn Tran, Kirk Johnson, Chelsey Grant, Jon Michael Simpson, and Josephine McAdam are some of the actors forming the cast.
To celebrate the release of Scare Package (2019), the people from Bloody Disgusting have released an exclusive clip entitled “One Time in the Woods” that serves as an appetizer of what is to find in the film: Slasher routines, funny surreal situations and high dosage of blood. You can watch it here.
