Without a doubt, Fried Barry (2020) was one of the most celebrated horror movies of the past year. Not only it collected a big amount of awards and nominations, but it also became an instant classic to many horror fans and was always on all the top 10 list of best movies of 2020. So if you are subscribed to Shudder you are in luck.

The crazy story of this South African movie centers on a drug-addled degenerate who, after yet another bender, gets abducted by aliens. Barry takes a backseat as his alien visitor assumes control of his body and takes it for a joyride through Cape Town. What follows is an onslaught of drugs, sex, and violence as Barry’s alien tourist enters the weird and wonderful world of humankind.

Fried Barry (2020) is the debut feature of director Ryan Kruger after being responsible for uncountable short films for over a decade and having acted in small supporting roles in other movies like Doomsday (2008), Monster Island (2019), or Bloodshot (2020). He has been also the writer of the screenplay from a story written by himself together with James C. Williamson.

Gary Green plays the main role of Barry, in a performance that brought him several Best Actor awards. Together with him, Bianka Hartenstein, Sean Cameron Michael, Chanelle de Jager, Joey Cramer and Jonathan Pienaar also star.

Fried Barry (2020) has been part of popular international genre festivals like Cinequest Film Festival, L’Étrange Festival, MOTELX – Lisbon International Horror Film Festival, Fantasy Filmfest, Grimmfest International Festival of Fantastic Film, Sitges Film Festival, Lausanne Underground Film & Music Festival, Torino Film Festival, Black Movie International Independent Film Festival, and Imagine Film Festival among others. Shudder has announced the movie will be released on their platform on May 7, 2021.
