Gothic horror "Martyrs Lane" will be out on Shudder in September

Gothic horror movie Martyrs Lane (2021) had its world premiere this month at the Fantasia Film Festival, and a few later it has been announced that streaming platform Shudder has achieved its American distribution rights.

The movie is an unsettling ghost story centering on Leah, 10 years old, who lives in a large old house with her family but can’t quite work out why her mother seems so distant. At night she is visited by a mysterious guest, who might be able to give her some answers. With a new challenge every night, Leah is rewarded with bits of knowledge that, when pieced together, threaten to shine a dangerous light on both the truth in her nightmares and of the world she lives in.

This is the new film of actress and filmmaker Ruth Platt after her first two films the comedy-drama The Black Forest (2019), which was nominated for the Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and horror thriller The Lesson (2015), nominated for Best Film at Fantasporto and Slamdance Film Festival. Besides directing, she has been also the writer of the screenplay based on her short film of the same name.

Martyrs Lane (2021) is starred by the young Kiera Thompson, who plays Leah. Together with her, Denise Gough, Anastasia Hille, Steven Cree, Hannah Rae, Donna Banya, Catherine Terris, Julie Barclay, Charlie Rix, Sienna Sayer, and Lianne Harvey also star.

After its premiere at Fantasia Film Festival on August 19, 2021, Martyrs Lane (2021) is taking part in the lineup of the Edinburgh International Film Festival. It is scheduled for a release on Shudder on September 9, 2021. You can watch its trailer here.
