The sweet girl from the alps is back with a vengeance. Mad Heidi (2022) has become one of the most recent instant-cult titles of the last years, achieving a praise feeling similar to what it has done Cocaine Bear (2023) last February or the first Sharknado (2013) ten years ago.
The movie is set in a dystopian Switzerland that has fallen under the fascist rule of the evil cheese tyrant, President Meili whose grand plan for global domination includes spreading Swiss cheese around the globe and the eradication of all lactose-intolerant scum. Sweet-natured Heidi lives a simple life in the Swiss Alps, protected by her gruff grandfather but when her boyfriend, Goat Peter is killed by Melli’s secret police, the innocent girl transforms herself into a kick-ass female fighting force who sets out to liberate the country she loves from the insane cheese dictator.
This insane and bizarre gory horror comedy was written and directed by Johannes Hartmann and Sandro Klopfstein marking this their debut feature film. Trent Haaga (Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV (2000), Deadgirl (2008), Cheap Thrills (2013), 68 Kill (2017), Girl on the Third Floor (2019)) and Gregory D. Widmer have been the co-writers.
The nearly-debutant Alice Lucy has been catapulted to underground stardom in horror with her performance of the enraged Heidi against the evil President Meili played by a personal favorite Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers (1997), Sleepy Hollow (1999), Alita: Battle Angel (2019), Daughter (2022)). Max Rüdlinger, Kel Matsena, Almar G. Sato, Pascal Ulli, Kaspar Weiss, Katja Kolm, and Rebecca Dyson-Smith complete the main cast.
Mad Heidi (2022) has had a successful genre festivals run collecting a good amount of awards and nominations including the Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film (BIFFF), Festival of Serbian Fantastic Film (FSFF), Molins Film Festival, Screamfest: New Orleans, South African Horrorfest, Trieste Science+Fiction Festival, Vancouver Horror Show, Zurich Film Festival, and many more.
After a limited theatrical release in several countries, the producers Swissploitation Films and distributors Umbrella Entertainment have prepared a very special Collector’s Edition including an exclusive o-ring, poster, and many extras like the directors and actors’ audio commentary, a making-of documentary, stunt reel, and teasers and trailers.
