Gory comedy "Sweetie, You Won't Believe It" is out on digital this month

We love it when comedy starts from a simple harmless point and then the situations escalate to an unexpected level of surrealism and dumbness. You look back and wonder “how the hell did I get here?”. And that is pretty much what happens to the protagonists of horror-comedy Sweetie, You Won’t Believe It (2020), entitled Zhanym, ty ne poverish in its original language.

In the movie, Dastan can no longer stand the constant nagging of his highly pregnant wife and decides to run away for at least one day with his friends. The men go fishing, which would have gone smoothly, if not for a series of unforeseen events. But what begins as a fishing trip with the boys quickly spirals out of control when they witness a mob hit in the forest, and that’s just the beginning of this insane, violent, hilarious misadventure from Kazakhstan. It begins with a couple quarreling about baby names, and it ends in gory revenge and slapstick splatter in a seemingly indestructible, one-eyed psychopath’s cabin in the woods. By the end, what is certain is they will all learn about life’s priorities.

This is the new movie from comedy director Yernar Nurgaliyev, this time stepping into darker terrains. He has also been the writer of the screenplay together with Zhandos Aibassov and Daniyar Soltanbayev.

The main cast for the movie is formed by Daniar Alshinov, Asel Kaliyeva, Azamat Marklenov, Yerlan Primbetov, Dulyga Akmolda, Almat Sakatov, Rustem Zhaniyamanov, Yerkebulan Daiyrov, and Bekaris Akhetov.
