The ticketing site 1 iota, specialized in specific events and fan screenings, has published recently a future event with the headline “We are looking for 13-25-year-old horror fans to attend a special advance screening of The Gallows 2”. Next to it, it reads the plot of that film, “Sequel to The Gallows (2015). After aspiring actress Auna Rue transfers to a prestigious new school, her desires are twisted by a viral challenge capable of conjuring a malevolent spirit”. And needless to say, everything looks quite official!
Well, apparently a sequel for The Gallows (2015) has been secretly filmed, and it is ready for some selected fans screenings. Also, on its Wikipedia page, we can find a little entry about the sequel that reads “The cast includes Ema Horvath, Brittany Falardeau, and Chris Milligan. The film had a test screening on the Warner Bros. Lot August 29th, 2017, with a release date in 2018”. No mention about who directed it, who has written it, nothing else. And so far this is all we know about this phantasm The Gallows 2.
Lots of mystery for a sequel of a very forgettable film that didn’t really amazed anyone, with even a nomination for Worst Film at the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards 2016, but did very well at the box office. With an estimated budget of $100,000, the movie grossed almost 23 million dollars only in the USA and up to $40 million worldwide. We’ll see what this sequel has to offer.
The original The Gallows (2015) starts when twenty years after an accident during a small town high school play results in death, students at the school resurrect the failed stage production in a misguided attempt to honor the anniversary of the tragedy, but ultimately find out that some things are better left alone.
