"Gale Stay Away from Oz": A new dark vision in the key of horror of the classic tale

American children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, written by author L. Frank Baum and illustrated by W. W. Denslow first published in May 1900, is not only one of the most popular Fantasy books of the last century but it is also been subject to a big number of adaptations in various media like theater, television, comics, animation, sequel books, and, of course, movies, probably being Victor Fleming’s The Wizard of Oz (1939) and Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) perhaps the most popular ones.

The story of the book, well-known to the global audience, centers on Young Dorothy Gale and her dog Toto who are swept away by a tornado from their Kansas farm to the magical Land of Oz and embark on a quest with three new friends to see the Wizard, who can return her to her home and fulfill the others’ wishes.

Now, we congratulate the upcoming arrival of Gale Stay Away from Oz, a much darker take on the tale where the days of emerald cities and yellow brick roads are long gone.

In Gale Stay Away from Oz, Dorothy Gale is now an elderly woman, broken by years of paranormal entanglement with a mystical realm, which has now echoed down to her only living relative, granddaughter Emily, who is being called to settle unfinished business in this terrifying world of Oz.

This is the debut feature film of the writer, cinematographer, producer, and director Daniel Alexander, after being behind a collection of short films over the last decade. The main cast for the movie is formed by Chloë Crump, Karen Swan, Stacey Devonport, Denny Hodge, and Tenisha White.

We still don’t know the release dates for the movie, but the first trailer has been released on the official YouTube channel of director Daniel Alexander and you can watch it here.
