The classic horror film franchises like Night of the Living Dead (1968), The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), or Halloween (1978) have been so over-exploited by the big studios, lately mostly with lame products lacking any pinch of originality or interest, that it is not a strange thing that the real fans of the sagas answer to that with their own sequels or prequels of their favorite films. And, sometimes, those fan films bring to the table more fresh ideas than the greedy studios that completely lost focus a long time ago. My Special Boy (2022) is one of those films taking the story of one of the most glorified movies of the slasher genre, Friday the 13th (1980), into a new perspective of the story.
There is no denying that Camp Crystal Lake has a dark history, one that Sean Orton is intent on ignoring. Despite being warned against returning to his childhood Camp, Sean’s desire to save his family name proves to be even stronger. Sean rechristens the grounds as Camp Trinity Pointe, and with a group of friends, he attempts to rebuild it into a safe haven with no traces of tragedy left behind. But the evil that still lingers on the Camp grounds is a stark reminder that History always repeats itself, and revenge is a dish best served cold.
The movie has been produced, written, and directed by a tandem of directors well familiar with the classic horror franchises fan-films world formed by Braden Timmons (The Haddonfield Nightmare (2021)) and James Grim (Halloween: The Devil’s Autumn (2020)). It is based on a story by Chad Sumner.
This small-budged slasher is starring Braden Timmons, Abby Jarrett, Adrian Navarro, Sammie Kahkola, Nui Phonphila, Kate Vu, Victoria Vega, Andrew Devon Johnson, Tevin Jackson, and Christian Diem.
The Indiegogo campaign for the film is still running for its post-production benefits and you can find more info here.
