The COVID-19 pandemic has been a disaster in many aspects, there is no doubt about it, and we are still suffering the consequences. But it has also been a start point for creativity for some independent filmmakers whose daily duties got truncated so they could just move to a reclusive location to develop their film works. Freak (2022) is another film shot during the 2020 lockdown and fund via a Kickstarter campaign.

The movie follows Ava, a washed-up writer who escapes a traumatic event in Los Angeles, retreats to a remote cabin in the woods of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. But the longer she stays, the more she realizes that her nightmare has only just begun.

The movie has been produced, written, and directed by Bianca Crespo, marking this her feature film debut after the horror short films Carousel (2019), Midnight Donut (2018), The Carving (2018), BRUTE (2018), and Banshee (2018).

Freak (2022) is starring Amelia Duncombe, Shelby Hightower, Jodi Draigie, Kenton Hoover, and underground horror queen Debbie Rochon who has been in uncountable independent productions including Dark Ritual (2021), Bloody Ballet (2018), Dollface (2014), Phobia (2013), Wrath of the Crows (2013), Exhumed (2011), and Slime City Massacre (2010).

The movie came out on DVD this past February. Here you can watch the official trailer for Freak (2022).
