Netflix has developed the biography crime drama mini-series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (2022). It is centered on the story of the Milwaukee Monster told from the perspective of the victims and police that made him become one of the most notorious serial killers in America.
Largely told from the point of view of Jeffrey Dahmer‘s victims, the series dives deeply into the police incompetence and apathy that allowed the Wisconsin native to go on a multiyear killing spree. The series dramatizes at least 10 instances where Dahmer was almost apprehended but ultimately let go. The series also is expected to touch on white privilege, as Dahmer, a clean-cut, good-looking white guy, was repeatedly given a free pass by cops as well as by judges who were lenient when he had been charged with petty crimes.
The series has been created by Ian Brennan, also the creator of other popular TV series like Scream Queens (2015–2016), The Politician (2019– ), and Ratched (2020– ), and Ryan Murphy, the producer of American Crime Story (2016– ) and Nip/Tuck (2003–2010), and also director of the drama-comedy film Running with Scissors (2006).
Evan Peters, known for being Quicksilver in the latest X-Men films and winner of the Primetime Emmy award for his role of Detective Colin Zabel in Mare of Easttown (2021) is portraying Jeffrey Dahmer. With him, Michael Learned, Karen Malina White, Richard Jenkins, Penelope Ann Miller, Khetphet Phagnasay, Brayden Maniago, Phet Mahathongdy, and Kieran Tamondong complete the main cast.
The TV series, consisting of 10 episodes, will premiere entirely on September 21, 2022, on Netflix.
