X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019) is the anticipated follow-up for X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), where the new generation of actors have taken the place to the faces who brought the X-men into live action back in the begining of the new century with Bryan Singer’s X-Men (2000). That was a while ago. In this new movie, Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn it into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world.
This new entry to the saga marks the debut of filmmaker Simon Kinberg as a director. He’s not a novice in the Marvel universe, specially in the X-Men franchise, since he’s been producer and writer of several of the mutan super-heroes titles, as well as other movies like Jumper (2008) or Fantastic Four (2015). And as soon the post-production of X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019) ends, Kinberg will embarc himself in his second directional project, the spy thriller 355, with a good handful of protagonist international agents starred by Bingbing Fan, Jessica Chastain, Penélope Cruz, Marion Cotillard and Lupita Nyong’o.
In X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019), Jessica Chastain is probably the most notorious addition to the X-Men universe, playing the villain of the show. Together with her, some familiar faces from the previous films: Jennifer Lawrence is Raven / Mystique, James McAvoy is Professor Charles Xavier, Tye Sheridan is Scott Summers / Cyclops, Michael Fassbender is Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto and Sophie Turner is the newby mutant being seduced by the dark side Jean Grey / Phoenix.
