Vincenzo Natali, responsible of movies like Cypher (2002) and Splice (2009), and whose debut title Cube (1997) became an instant classic of modern science fiction cinema, has spent the latest years of his career working mainly on television projects. He is behind some episodes of shows like Hannibal (2013–2015), Wayward Pines (2015– ), Lost in Space (2018– ) and The Returned (2015). Now he is back with a feature film, and he has been responsible for directing the adaptation of Stephen King and Joe Hill horror novel with In the Tall Grass (2019).
“Who would think that grass could be frightening? Trust Stephen King and Joe Hill to find a way. They have transformed an otherwise innocuous Kansas field into a stage for some of the most disturbing horror fiction I have ever read”. This was said by filmmaker Vincenzo Natali back in 2015 when he showed the interest of directing a movie adaptation of the novel written hand with hand by Stephen King with his son and fellow author.
In the Tall Grass (2019) starts when after hearing a young boy’s cry for help, siblings Becky and Cal venture into a vast field of grass in Kansas but soon discover that there may be no way out. They get ensnared by a sinister force that quickly disorients and separates them. Cut off from the world and unable to escape the field’s tightening grip, the only thing worse than getting lost is being found.
Besides directing, Vincenzo Natali wrote the screenplay based on the novel. Patrick Wilson, Harrison Gilbertson, Rachel Wilson, Laysla De Oliveira, Will Buie Jr., Avery Whitted, and Tiffany Helm form the main cast.
In the Tall Grass (2019) will have its world premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 20, 2019, which will be followed by the screenings at Vancouver International Film Festival the next week and is the opening title at Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival 2019 on October 2. It is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2019 on Netflix. Here you can find the first official trailer of the movie:
