The franchise that started with the James Wan horror and mystery thriller The Conjuring (2013) already 10 years ago keeps expanding with a new sequel spin-off. After the financial success of The Nun (2018), the sequel is coming out this Fall.

The Nun II (2023) takes place in 1956 in France, where a priest is murdered and evil is spreading. The sequel follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face-to-face with Valak, the demon nun.

Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene and Bonnie Aarons as the evil Nun reprise their roles from the first film in a cast that also includes Anna Popplewell, known for her role Susan Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia film series, Storm Reid, Jonas Bloquet, and Katelyn Rose Downey.

The Nun II (2023) is directed by Michael Chaves, a filmmaker familiar with the franchise after being the director of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) and The Curse of La Llorona (2019). Gary Dauberman, the co-writer of the first The Nun (2018) and also writer of Annabelle (2014), Annabelle: Creation (2017), It (2017), and Annabelle Comes Home (2019), is responsible again for the screenplay together with Akela Cooper (Grimm (2011–2017), Hell Fest (2018), Malignant (2021), M3GAN (2022)) and Ian Goldberg (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008–2009), The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016), Eli (2019), Fear the Walking Dead (2015–2023)).

Atomic Monster, New Line Cinema, and The Safran Company are producing with Warner Bros. Pictures distributing. The international release date has been set on September 8, 2023.
