Everybody knows how obsessed is Disney with exploiting their franchises just for the money until the fans lose complete interest in them and the characters we once treasured start to become a joke without any kind of interest. They are doing it with the over-exposition of Marvel superheroes in uncountable features and TV series, it is recently happening with the Star Wars universe, and since the acquisition of 20th Century Studios by the Mickey Mouse company back in 2019 it could also happen to other franchises like Predator.

Prey (2022) is a horror and action movie that chronologically might represent the first time the intergalactic hunter has been visiting our planet. Way before the events happening in the original movie Predator (1987), and the Alien vs Predator crossovers films.

Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, Prey (2022) is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.

Dan Trachtenberg, the acclaimed filmmaker responsible for the already cult classic 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) and episodes of the TV series The Boys (2019– ) and Black Mirror (2011–2019), has been in charge of directing the film. Patrick Aison, a writer and producer who has taken part in the action and science-fiction TV series Wayward Pines (2015–2016), Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan (2018– ), and Treadstone (2019), debuts with the screenplay in a feature film.

The main star in the movie playing the role of Naru is Amber Midthunder, known for her participation in the science-fiction TV series Legion (2017–2019) and Roswell, New Mexico (2019–2022), and the thrillers The Ice Road (2021) and Hell or High Water (2016). Dakota Beavers, Stefany Mathias, and Stormee Kipp also star with Dane DiLiegro portraying the Predator.

Another negative effect of Disney having its hands on the franchise is that producer John Davis hinted this would be the first solo Predator film to be rated PG-13, against the original R-rated envisioned by the director Dan Trachtenberg who has been working on the project for over 5 years.

Prey (2022) is scheduled for a straight to digital release by Hulu on August 5, 2022. Watch here its official trailer.
