We’re entering the third week of the new year and our body demands new Nicolas Cage material. To calm our thirst Netflix gave us a little dose that was History of Swear Words (2021– ) and it was satisfying enough. At least for a while. But now we’re about to get a new full-length movie by our most beloved performer. Please, be very welcome to Willy’s Wonderland (2021).
In the movie, stranded in the remote town of Hayesville, Nevada, a quiet drifter agrees to work as a night-shift janitor at Willy’s Wonderland, a once-successful family entertainment center. However, his tasks suddenly become an all-out fight for survival when the restaurant’s eight animatronic characters come to life and try to kill him. Now, teaming up with a group of teens who also found their way into the building, he will be forced to defend himself in a desperate race to survive until the next morning.
Like if it was a crossover between Peter Jackson’s Meet the Feebles (1989) and horror-comedy 1980s classic Chopping Mall (1986). In fact, Willy’s Wonderland (2021) is produced by the same people who brought us Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988) decades ago. Nicolas Cage is also a producer of the movie.
Willy’s Wonderland (2021) has been directed by Kevin Lewis, also the director of The Method (1996), Downward Angel (2001), The Drop (2006), and The Third Nail (2007). G.O. Parsons was the author of the screenplay.
Together with Nicolas Cage, Beth Grant, Terayle Hill, Emily Tosta, Caylee Cowan, Chris Schmidt Jr., Ric Reitz, Taylor Towery, Jonathan Mercedes, Christian Delgrosso, Jiri Stanek, David Sheftell, Jessica Graves, and co-producer Grant Cramer complete the main cast.
Willy’s Wonderland (2021) was originally set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 30, 2020, by Screen Media Films. However, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic causing the closure of theaters across the globe, the film is scheduled to be released through video on demand on February 12, 2021. On October 30, 2020, the first teaser for the movie was released. Now, the first full official trailer is out. You can watch it here.
