A couple of weeks ago we were sharing the first group of images for the new Drew Goddard movie Bad Times at the El Royale (2018), and now we are happy to show the first trailer for the movie recently released. And with the trailer, one can already figure out what is the essence of the movie, quite similar to Goddard’s debut film The Cabin in the Woods (2012). If his first film twisted the minds of horror goers in order to make us all feel that everything we know might not be as we expect it to be, this time is the genre of a noir thriller the one that gets through the refreshing filter of the filmmaker.
From what is seen on the trailer, Drew Goddard seems to have imprinted his good eye for what cinema is supposed to be. Mysterious conversations carried by mysterious characters, the thrilling fear of crimes being committed, the right dose of sense of humor and when it’s the time to get messy never to hesitate. Bad Times at the El Royale (2018), with a very attractive cast plagued with A-class stars, is placed in the late 1960s’ California. In it, seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at Lake Tahoe‘s El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past in 1969. Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption… before everything goes to hell. A young concierge (Lewis Pullman) greets the strangers: a down-on-his-luck priest (Jeff Bridges), a singer (Cynthia Erivo), an impressionable Southern girl (Cailee Spaeny) and her older sister (Dakota Johnson), a vacuum cleaner salesman (Jon Hamm), and a charismatic cult leader (Chris Hemsworth). Other actors like Nick Offerman, Manny Jacinto, Mark O’Brien, Jonathan Whitesell, Sarah Smyth, Bethany Brown or Alvina August complete the cast.
Bad Times at the El Royale (2018) won’t see the light until October when it will have its theatrical release worldwide. But the fans of thriller and suspense, as well as any other cinema aficionado, should add this title to the list of movies to watch this year. Check out here the first official trailer for the movie and you’ll see what I’m talking about:
