Are we as a society a train wreck on the way to go totally crazy? Will movies like The Purge saga or 1984 (1984) become not science-fiction but a reflection of what is going to occur in the upcoming generations? Did we totally lost our mind? Maybe. We have lost the respect of our fellow human beings as we have lost it for our planet and things seem to only change into worse. The apocalypse will happen in our porch and the presidential chairs are being occupied for the madness of the people. We are screaming out for that. So a movie about rich people hunting other humans doesn’t sound like a so crazy happening anymore.
Those stories were portraited in other movies in the past, being The Most Dangerous Game (1932), Hard Target (1993) and Battle Royale (2000) perhaps the most representative films. This year, a new title with a similar plotline will hit our screens. In The Hunt (2019), in the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a group of globalist elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt humans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of the hunted knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman at the center of it all.
The Hunt (2019) has been directed by Craig Zobel, responsible for Z for Zachariah (2015) and some episodes of the TV series The Leftovers (2014–2017). Nick Cuse, who previously worked with the director in The Leftovers (2014–2017), has written the movie together with Damon Lindelof, one of the creators of popular TV series Lost (2004–2010) and co-writer of movies like Cowboys & Aliens (2011), Prometheus (2012), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and World War Z (2013). Betty Gilpin, Emma Roberts, Hilary Swank, Justin Hartley, Glenn Howerton, Ike Barinholtz, Amy Madigan, Macon Blair, Teri Wyble, Wayne Duvall and Alexander Babara form the main cast.
In March 2018, Universal Pictures acquired the rights to the film, produced by Blumhouse Productions together with White Rabbit Productions. Filming began on February 20, 2019, in New Orleans and was due to finish on April 5. The Hunt (2019) is scheduled to be released on September 27, 2019, and now the first teaser in the form of an ad for the human-hunting experience. You can watch it here:
