First look at horror comedy “Porno”, premiering this weekend at SXSW

Cinema inside of cinema, or meta-cinema, that is something that always brings cool start points to creative filmmakers. And horror movies, being probably the only genre where anything can happen, everything is possible, these ideas are frequently used to bring out new stories. From immortal classics like Lamberto Bava’s Demons (1985) to more recent flicks like The Final Girls (2015).

The movie Porno (2019) is one of those titles that play with those contents that could inhabit in the world of cinema. This time, the cursed entity is the movies theater where the stars of the show work. Taken from the official description of the movie published in the SXSW Festival site, “Abe is a burgeoning perv with a guilty conscience. Todd is Abe’s spazzed out BFF and partner in grime. Chaz is a girl with a boy’s name who hides her feelings behind a thick layer of goth eyeliner. Ricky is the star jock with a secret in his pants he dare not expose. What these uptight dweebs could never have guessed is that the wholesome movie theater they work at used to have a lot more than just gum stuck to the seats. When a remnant of the theater’s porno past surfaces, the kids are visited by a sex demon that gives them a taste of the dark side”.

The director of Porno (2019) is the debutant on a feature film Keola Racela, who achieved some underground recognition especially in the film student circuits thanks to his awarded short film Above the Sea (2013). Also debuting as writers of a feature film are the authors of the screenplay Matt Black and Laurence Vannicelli. Evan Daves, Larry Saperstein, Jillian Mueller, Glenn Stott, Robbie Tann, Bill Phillips, Katelyn Pearce, and Peter Reznikoff are starring.

Porno (2019) will premiere next Saturday 9th of March at South by Southwest Film Festival. You can check out the screening scheduled and venues at the official site of the festival here.
