Rogue Trooper is a science fiction strip in the British comic 2000 AD, created by Gerry Finley-Day and Dave Gibbons in 1981. It follows the adventures of Rogue, a Genetic Infantryman, a genetically created, blue-skinned, manufactured super soldier and his three comrades’ search for the Traitor General. His comrades are in the form of biochips – onto which a G.I.’s entire personality is downloaded at the time of death for later retrieval – and are named Gunnar (mounted on Rogue’s rifle), Bagman (on his backpack) and Helm (on his helmet). He is genetically engineered to be immune to almost all known toxins, can submerge in strong acid unaffected, and is able to withstand a vacuum in his bare skin.
British filmmaker Duncan Jones has had in mind for a while an adaptation of the fictitious character into a movie or series of movies, and apparently that moment has arrived. After 2 very interesting science fiction titles Moon (2009) and Source Code (2011), Jones entered in the world of Hollywood blockbusters with his adaptation of Warcraft (2016). His latest work was the futuristic thriller Mute (2018) [read our review here].
The Rogue Trooper movie project has been merely announced, it has not been revealed if a screenplay already exists or who will be set to star. But Liberty Films UK and Rebellion Developments Ltd. are set to produce it, so probably some news about the project will soon appear. For the moment, Duncan Jones posted on his official Twitter account @ManMadeMoon a hint of the project. “If that’s not enough of a clue…“.
