It was already 15 years ago, but do you remember how shocked we all were when the movie Saw (2004) came out? Tied up in a dirty room, with that creepy voice encouraging the heroes to play a game of mutilation and shame, what wonderful nightmare built that promising duo of young filmmakers, Leigh Whannell and James Wan. Oh, or what Eli Roth did with his Hostel saga, first blowing our mind with that secret society where wealthy sick people paid to see youngsters getting mutilated and murdered in Hostel (2005), to go even deeper into the horrors and the plot twists in Hostel: Part II (2007), and finally to show how abominable is the face of human nature with Hostel: Part III (2011) (okay, Roth only remained as a producer of this third one and Scott Spiegel directed, but the essence is still there). Ah, the good golden times of torture porn, with special mentions to Srdjan Spasojevic’s A Serbian Film (2010), Tom Six’s The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009) and follow-ups, or Kôji Shiraishi’s Grotesque (2009). Those titles sadly remain too far in the past, and more of the kind are missing.
That’s why it’s good news that a low budget but hot in sickness flick like Don’t Click (2020) is in the scene. Probably it will never reach the popularity level of the formerly mentioned titles, but it’s always nice to have this kind of film back. In it, after accessing a pornographic website, two men wake up to find themselves trapped in a dungeon with a supernatural entity. Snuff meets Hellraiser (1987)?
G-Hey Kim debuts as the director of a feature film with Don’t Click (2020), which is based on her short film of the same name. Courtney Ellum has been the writer of the screenplay and is also the executive producer. Valter Skarsgård, Mark Koufos, Catherine Howard, Ry Barrett, May Grehan, Samantha Hart, Dayjan Lesmond, Geoff Mays, Derrick Rabethge, and Erica Sherwood form the main cast.
Don’t Click (2020) was part of the FrightFest festival in the UK this summer. After that, it is scheduled for a digital release on December 11, 2020. Here you can watch its official trailer.
