If you haven’t seen The Woman (2011) trust me on this one and go watch it. The movie, co-written and directed by Lucky McKee almost a decade ago, centered around a family that finds and tries to civilize a feral woman living a savage life in a forest of the American Northeast coast. The movie had some intense and unforgettable moments and surely left the fans with our primitive instincts in the flesh and craving for more of that mysterious character called The Woman.
Now, Pollyanna McIntosh, who incarnated The Woman in the homonymous film and previous movie it was based on Offspring (2009), has decided to bring back her character. She has written and is directing a direct sequel called Darlin’ (2019), where she will, of course, reprise again the role of The Woman.
Found at a Catholic hospital filthy and ferocious, feral teenager Darlin’ is whisked off to a care home run by The Bishop and his obedient nuns where she is to be tamed into a “good girl.” However, Darlin’ holds a secret darker than the “sins” she is threatened with, and she is not traveling alone. The Woman, equally fierce and feral, who raised her is ever present and is determined to come for her no matter who tries to step in her way.
Besides Pollyanna McIntosh, Nora-Jane Noone, Cooper Andrews, Bryan Batt, Sabrina Gennarino, Eugenie Bondurant, Charlie Talbert, Peyton Wich, Thomas Francis Murphy and Mackenzie Graham are the main stars of Darlin’ (2019).
Coinciding the SXSW festival, the first teaser trailer for Darlin’ (2019) has been published. You can watch it here:
