Buckout Road, also known as The Curse of Buckout Road (2017), is a horror mystery movie based on the real-life stories regarding a haunted street in the county of Westchester, New York, USA. One of the earliest legends of this road dates back all the way to the 1600s. No longer visible on the more recently paved and widened road, 3 X’s once marked the spot of where three women were burned at the stake, standing accused of witchcraft. Legend has it if you drove over the X’s you would have terrible things happen to you.
In the movie, Aaron Powell returns home from the Naval Postgraduate School to his grandfather, a brilliant psychiatrist Lawrence. Dr. Powell and his colleague detective Roy Harris are investigating a recent suicide of a college professor Stephanie Hancock, who suffered from nightmares involved the infamous urban legends of Buckout Road. While they think she was mentally unstable, Mrs. Hancock’s student Cleo Harris starts to show the same symptoms as she was working on an assignment about Buckout Road urban myth. Cleo and Aaron realize that they have to solve the mystery of how to stop the evil before it takes their souls as well.
The Curse of Buckout Road (2017) is based on a story by Johnny Pascucci, a real resident of the area. He stated “when I was 16 we used to go up there and try to get scared by flesh-eating albinos. Nothing ever happened, but that pure adrenaline rush always stayed with me“. He continues “there’s been stuff going on there for years, even before the Buckout Legend. I kind of told all those stories from hundreds of years and combined them into the same story, happening in the present time“.
Matthew Currie Holmes is the director of The Curse of Buckout Road (2017). He has also been author of the screenplay together with Shahin Chandrasoma, the writer of horror science-fiction Uncanny (2015). Evan Ross, Henry Czerny, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, Danny Glover, Colm Feore, Mayko Nguyen, Jim Watson, Kyle Mac, Michelle Mylett, John Ralston, Patrick Garrow, David Hayter and Sharron Matthews star in the film.
The Curse of Buckout Road (2017) has been part of the line-up of several film festivals where it got a positive reception and also collected a good bunch of award winnings and nominations. In several categories, including Best Feature, Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Horror Feature and Best Actress for Dominique Provost-Chalkley. The movie will come out the 27th of September.
