Step by step, Bond 25 (2019) is taking form. Although the final title and plot of the new adventures of the most famous MI6 spy are still a mystery, at least the cast and crew is slowly getting confirmed. With Daniel Craig playing again James Bond and supporting actors Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, and Ralph Fiennes probably reprising their roles of Q, Moneypenny, Tanner and M, now it’s been announced that Danny Boyle is finally the chosen one to take the reigns of the project. What seems to be sure is that Christoph Waltz won’t be playing Blofeld again. He stated “no, I’m sorry. I’m really sad, but that’s the tradition, that there is a new…name. Sorry. I would’ve liked to“. Bummer.
There have been a while rumors of Boyle being the best candidate to direct the new 007 on the net, and this has been finally confirmed. With him, his longtime collaborator John Hodge also joins the project as responsible of the screenplay. Hodge has been behind the scripts for most of Boyle movies, from their debut on a feature film Shallow Grave (1994) to the popular Trainspotting (1996), A Life Less Ordinary (1997), The Beach (2000) (based on an Alex Garland novel) and their latest work T2 Trainspotting (2017).
This film will be Daniel Craig‘s fifth and likely final appearance as James Bond. We must remember Craig has just recently turned 50 years old, so his body is not in the best conditions to support the extreme action sequences a movie of this sort is filled with, no matter how much in a good shape he is. Scheduled to be released in 2019, the movie will also be Craig‘s thirteen years in tenure as James Bond since his first in Casino Royale (2006). This will, by tenure, make him the longest running actor playing James Bond in the official series since the late Roger Moore‘s era between the early 1970s to the mid 1980s, which ran for about a dozen years, between Live and Let Die (1973) and A View to a Kill (1985). By film count Craig in the official series will become third, after Sean Connery with six and Roger Moore.
As a funny curiosity, this is not the first time Daniel Craig works under the orders of fellow British director Danny Boyle. They together made a featurette where Daniel Craig plays James Bond as he accompanies The Queen of England to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Do you wanna know more about it?
