This Coronavirus situation is something that nobody likes, and I’m not only talking about the infected and dead people, which is the obvious first damage caused. Besides keeping us all locked home and punishing most of the big, medium and small businesses, it is keeping us away from doing one of the most grateful activities that one can do with our leisure time, which is going to the movies. To celebrate the Video on Demand release the 1st of May of the horror movie The Wretched (2019), the distributors have had a good idea of also including a limited release drive-in theaters across the USA on that day.

The Wretched (2019) is a horror creature film where a defiant teenage boy, struggling with his parent’s imminent divorce, faces off with a thousand-year-old witch, who is living beneath the skin of and posing as the woman next door. It is the second feature movie written and directed by Brett Pierce and Drew T. Pierce after horror-comedy Deadheads (2011), which won the Best Comedy award in Toronto After Dark Film Festival back in 2011. Only, regarding what we can see, this time the filmmakers have left aside all traces of comedy to focus on real gruesome horror. A move that we all welcome with open arms!

The Wretched (2019) is starred by John-Paul Howard, Piper Curda, Jamison Jones, Azie Tesfai, Zarah Mahler, Kevin Bigley, Gabriela Quezada Bloomgarden, Richard Ellis, Blane Crockarell, Judah Abner Paul, Ja’layah Washington, and Amy Waller.

The movie had extensive film festivals run during the last year 2019, where it has achieved mostly positive reactions. It was nominated to the Cheval Noir award for Best Film in Fantasia Film Festival in Canada, and it has also been part of the line-up of FrightFest in the UK, HARD: LINE Film Festival in Germany, Monsterfest Melbourne in Australia, and Canadian Toronto After Dark Film Festival. Now, it is scheduled to come out on Video on Demand via IFC Midnight this Friday, May 1st, but if you want to see it on the silver screen and you are in the United States, you can also have the drive-in experience. For extra information, venues and tickets you can visit the official movie website. Up to 321 drive-ins across the USA have been added to this endeavor.

The people from Bloody-Disgusting released an exclusive clip that works like the perfect appetizer for what is to find in The Wretched (2019). Enjoy!
