Cops investigate a mangled body with uncanny wounds in horror "The Breach"

The Troop is a 2014 horror novel written by Canadian author Craig Davidson under the pen name Nick Cutter. The novel follows a troop of Boy Scouts who must deal with not only the threats posed by killer tapeworms but also the homicidal and sociopathic tendencies of one of their own. It won the inaugural James Herbert Award for Horror Writing.

The Breach (2022) serves as an adaptation of the novel The Troop, and it tells the story of John Hawkins, counting down his last days as Chief of Police in the tiny town of Lone Crow nestled deep in the desolate woods of Northern Ontario. But when a mangled body with uncanny wounds washes up on the shores of the Porcupine River, he’s pulled into a horrific mystery that defies comprehension. Hawkins and coroner Jacob Redgrave suspect the disfigured body is that of theoretical physicist Cole Parsons, also known as the “The Electromagnetic Czar of the University of Tulsa”, who recently disappeared. The two investigators enlist Meg Full bright, local charter boat captain and Hawkins’ former beau, to take them to the place where Parsons was last seen alive. There, they find a house haunted by secrets: an eerie presence moves through the rooms, and in the attic sits a bizarre machine cobbled together from junk parts and electrical wire… a device with a will of its own.

This is the second feature film of Rodrigo Gudiño, founding editor and publisher of the iconic Canadian magazine Rue Morgue after his debut movie The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh (2012). Ian Weir, a writer with wide television experience, has been in charge of the screenplay.

Emily Alatalo, Mary Antonini, Natalie Brown, David R Carter, Wesley French, Allan Hawco, Alex Lifeson, Elisa Paszt, Ava Weiss, and Adam Kenneth Wilson form the main cast for The Breach (2022).

The movie had its world premiere on July 25, 2022, as part of the Fantasia International Film Festival. Later this month it is going to be part of the FrightFest, and in October it will be part of the lineup at the Sitges Film Festival.
