A Quiet Place (2018) was one of the big surprises and one of the most liked horror film of the last year. A small post-apocalyptic creepy science fiction film about a family facing struggles to survive in a devastated world inhabited by blind extraterrestrial creatures with an acute sense of hearing. Its originality and intense plot bedazzled viewers all over the world praising the movie and discovering its star and director John Krasinski wasn’t only the funny guy from The Office (2005-2013) but also is a very talented competent filmmaker.
Since right after the movie came out, a sequel for A Quiet Place (2018) has been more than a possibility. In April 2018, Paramount Chair and CEO Jim Gianopulos said a sequel to the film was “in the works“. A bunch of ideas for a second film were left outside of the first script so the creative team had plenty of material to work with. By August 2018, Paramount announced the project with Krasinski returning to write the script, while Platinum Dunes, a company created by Michael Bay and others, returning as producers.
Later in 2018, Krasinski stated that the next film “would not be a direct sequel to the first film“, and would focus on another group of people surviving the same alien invasion. Now it is confirmed that the main family, played by John Krasinski himself, his real-life wife Emily Blunt, and the kids played by Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe will be back to star the new film. As happened with the first film, John Krasinski has written the screenplay together with Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, the original creators of the story. The new film is scheduled to be released on May 15, 2020.
In A Quiet Place (2018), over three months in 2020, most of Earth’s human and animal populations have been wiped out by sightless extraterrestrial creatures that originated from a meteor shower impacting Earth. The creatures, attacking anything that makes noise, have hypersensitive hearing and indestructible, armored skin. The Abbott family try to survive scavenging whatever they have the chance to get their hands into, and communicating in sign language. You can watch here the final trailer for the original film:
