If you are an avid horror fan and you follow in your social media and online magazines the horror news you will be aware that perhaps the thing everybody is talking about this week is the release of the first trailer for Evil Dead Rise (2023).

This time, you don’t have to go to a stranded cabin in the middle of a forest, because now they brought the evil book into a suburban home. Evil can take over all of us.

Evil Dead Rise (2023), tells the story of two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.

The saga created by Sam Raimi with The Evil Dead (1981), with the help of Rob Tapert and the main star Bruce Campbell, becoming one of the biggest gory horror underground hits ever seen, had a bigger budget continuation with Evil Dead II (1987) where the character of Ash Williams became the unwanted hero in a dark tale of evilness, bloodspattering, and lots of comedy, followed by the fantasy tale Army of Darkness (1992), aka Evil Dead III. The trilogy became an absolute cult classic and while the original creators, including producer Sam Raimi and main star Bruce Campbell, developed the TV series Ash vs Evil Dead (2015–2018), a new trend, more focused on the horror, darkness, and bloody side, opened with Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead (2013).

Evil Dead Rise (2023) continues in the fashion of the latest, and from what we can see in the first official trailer and the synopsis shared darkness and pure terror won’t take anyone a hostage in the direction the film saga is taking.

A whole new cast not related to the performers of the previous installments of the Evil Dead saga stars in Evil Dead Rise (2023), with Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, Jayden Daniels, Gabrielle Echols, Billy Reynolds-McCarthy, and Tai Wano starring.

Lee Cronin, an award-winning filmmaker with the feature The Hole in the Ground (2019) and the short film Ghost Train (2013), is the writer and director of Evil Dead Rise (2023).

New Line Cinema, together with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s banners Renaissance Pictures and Ghost House Pictures, are producing the movie. Warner Bros. Pictures is distributing and has set the release date for April 21, 2023.

Evil Dead Rise (2023) is Rated R for strong bloody horror violence and gore and some language.
