If you are into extreme music and extreme cinema, you must add the Chilean horror and mystery Invoking Yell (2023) to your watch list.

The movie is set in the 1990s in the south of Chile and tells the story of three women in their twenties who venture into the woods to shoot a demo tape for their black metal band, named Invoking Yell, while also documenting the eerie and unsettling process of recording electronic voice phenomena in the woods for the final track.

The movie has been directed by Patricio Valladares, an awards-winner prolific filmmaker responsible for a good handful of horror films including Curriculum (2006), Dirty Love (2009), Toro Loco (2011) and its sequel Toro Loco: Bloodthirsty (2015), Hidden in the Woods (2012) and its English-language remake Hidden in the Woods (2014), Downhill (2016), The Ghosts of Garip (2016), Nightworld: Door of Hell (2017), and Hidden in the Woods II (2022). He has also the writer of the screenplay in collaboration with his frequent collaborator Barry Keating.

The main cast in Invoking Yell (2023) is formed by Macarena Carrere, Andrea Ozuljevich, and María Jesús Marcone.

The movie has been described as “a slow-burn found-footage thriller that takes its story from actual events in the ’90s involving the black metal scene and crimes from this decade”.

The movie is already completed and will hit the festivals circuit in 2023.
