Mockumentaries are always a fun subgenre, especially if the audience is not aware that the facts are fake. And yes, right now I’m having in mind Peter Jackson’s Forgotten Silver (1995). But when the depicted facts are so surreal and the film ends up in a massacre, then it is another level.
The Hoard (2018) is a Canadian horror comedy mockumentary that chronicles the unraveling of a production team who are attempting to produce the ultimate reality TV show pilot “Extremely Haunted Hoarders”. The fake documentary is written and directed by Jesse Thomas Cook, responsible of Monster Brawl (2011), Septic Man (2013) and The Hexecutioners (2015), and Matt Wiele, who debuted in direction with Ejecta (2014).
To the tandem of directors is also added their frequent collaborator Tony Burgess, a novelist responsible of the texts for the underrated horror gem Pontypool (2008), as co-writer. Also, he saves the role of Dr. Lance Ebe for himself. Together, Lisa Solberg, Barry More, Ry Barrett, Elma Begovic, Marcus Ludlow, Justin Darmanin and Charles Ivey also star.
The Hoard (2018) is going to be part of the line-up of the BITS – Blood in the Snow Canadian Film Festival in Toronto this month. And to warm up motors for the screening here is the first official trailer:
