Recently we have had updates about the cast members to join the TV series M. Mercedes, scheduled to air next year 2018. And, so far, the show is taking interesting dimensions! The series are conceived by David E. Kelley, who was also the creator of other successful TV shows like Ally McBeal (1997-2002), as well as the writer of the underrated film Lake Placid (1999).
M. Mercedes, written by Stephen King, based on his homonymous book, tells the story of a psychopathic killer who drives his Mercedes car into a crowd and a recently retired cop who tries to bring him down. Veteran actor Brendan Gleeson will incarnate the vicious murderer. Other names who joined the project are Jharrel Jerome, Holland Taylor, Mary-Louise Parker, Kelly Lynch and Ann Cusack.
The direction of the series will be Jack Bender, who has experience in big TV projects after being on the director’s chair of Lost (2004-2010) or Under the Dome (2013-2015), among others, as well of being responsable of Child’s Play 3 (1991).
This is not the first time a book by Stephen King gets an adaptation for the small screen. Many times, Stephen King himself has wrote the screenplay for the TV adaptation. In fact, some of his most notorious works turned into images were conceived as a TV format. Salem’s Lot (1979), It (1990) or The Langoliers (1995) were TV Mini series. As well as full series like Under the Dome (2013-2015), The Dead Zone (2002-2007), Kingdom Hospital (2004- ) and the interesting collection of short stories Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King (2006- ).
