When we found our lives turned upside down in 2021 when the COVID-19 pandemic broke, some people decided to exchange the commodities and agglomeration of the big cities to go to more quiet and isolated rural areas. The protagonists of the horror thriller Camping Trip (2021) tried a similar stunt for a few days, and the results didn’t go as expected. Because, as the headline of the movie says, “far from COVID, far from safe”.

The movie is set in the summer of 2020. Two couples decide to go on a COVID-era camping trip after months of being in lockdown. The freedom of nature and the company of their best friends offer the group a rare sense of normality, but though secluded, they’re not alone. Nearby, during a botched drop-off, two goons decide to go rogue; inadvertently, implicating the campers. What started as a fun-filled vacation quickly turns into a test of loyalty and survival. Suddenly the pandemic is the least of their worries.

Demian Fuica, who was behind the awards-nominated social drama La Run (2011), is co-directing Camping Trip (2021) together with Leonardo Fuica, who is also the writer and one of the stars of the film. The rest of the cast is formed by Hannah Forest Briand, Caitlin Cameron, Alex Gravenstein, Ben Pelletier, Jonathan Vanderzon, and Michael D’Amico.

Camping Trip (2021) was shot in Mont-Tremblant, Québec, Canada, during the height of the pandemic in 2020, meaning requiring strict health and safety procedures were required.

The movie debuted digitally on August 16, 2022. Here you can watch its official trailer.
