Attention to this one, looks like a joke but this is serious. Do you remember the adventures of Bill and Ted? Those two excellent dudes, rockstars wannabes, perhaps not the smartest ones but with a heart of gold, traveling in time in order to save the world? Their amazing quests were depicted in two movies, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991), and one animation TV show Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures (1990–1991). A long time has passed for those heroes, absolute children of the incoming 1990s who are now long forgotten for most movie fans. Their followers of the original adventures are already facing or passing middle age. And so are Bill and Ted. But that is not stopping them to return!
“When we last met Bill and Ted they were time-traveling teenagers trying to pass history class and win the battle of the bands. Once prophesized to save the universe with their rock and roll, middle age and the responsibilities of family have caught up with these two best friends who have not yet fulfilled their destiny. They’ve written thousands of tunes, but they have yet to write a good one, much less the greatest song ever written. With the fabric of time and space tearing around them, a visitor from the future warns our heroes that only their song can save life as we know it. Out of luck and fresh out of inspiration, Bill and Ted set out on a time travel adventure to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe as we know it. Together with the aid of their daughters, a new crop of historical figures, and some sympathetic music legends, Bill and Ted find much, much more than just a song”. This is the official press note released at the Cannes Film Festival (yes, in Cannes, not so square and boring film festival anymore, eh?) announcing the coming of the movie Bill & Ted Face the Music.
Original creators Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon are the authors of the script. Prolific director Dean Parisot, responsible of comedies mixed with science fiction, crime and action like Galaxy Quest (1999), Fun with Dick and Jane (2005) and RED 2 (2013) is set to direct. And the lead characters Bill and Ted can’t be played again by any but the original actors Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves. The two has had very different careers since they starred the first Bill & Ted movies at a very young age, with Alex Winter becoming an acknowledged documentary and TV series director and Keanu Reeves being one of the biggest nowadays action stars with film series like The Matrix or the very recent John Wick. William Sadler, who played The Death in the second movie Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991) will also reprise his role. Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves stated: “We couldn’t be more excited to get the whole band back together again. Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm we’ve got a dream team!”.
