Ben Affleck's script for The Batman has been ditched

Now that his latest movie War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) has been released with quite positive reviews, it is time for Matt Reeves to focus on his next project. And that one is nothing but The Batman, one of the movies that have make rivers of ink run even before its production starts. After Ben Affleck was confirmed to be out of the film direction, now it’s made public that Matt Reeves has rejected that first script Affleck penned. Reeves recently said on MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast that he ditched the original script that Affleck had worked on, saying that “it’s a new story” and that they’re “just starting again”.

That also means it’s unknown who is finally going to be the villain in the new movie. Reportedly actor Joe Manganiello was chosen to play Deathstroke, but now that is not so certain anymore. And to add more gossip to the story, Josh Gad recently twitted a photo of the known arch-villain in the Batman universe The Penguin. That, together with Joe Manganiello telling his fans to hold their horses about getting excited with his participation in the adventures of the caped crusader, added more gasoline to the fire of speculation.

Matt Reeves became one of the most promising filmmakers when he surprised everybody with his successful movie Cloverfield (2008). After that, he was in charge of the American remake Let Me In (2010), based on the delicious Swedish film Let the Right One In (2008). Not a long time passed until he could get control of one of the most celebrated remake franchises of the last years, and directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014). To be chosen as the director responsible for The Batman makes nothing but to certify Matt Reeves is one of the young filmmakers with more projection in Hollywood nowadays.
