Being stuck at home is horror in thrillers "The Stay" and "Safer at Home"

“Home, Sweet Home” they use to say. Yeah, probably most of the time. But being locked between 4 walls can sometimes be messy in your head, either if you get an unexpected visit or if your own mind starts to play tricks on you. Psychological horror thrillers The Stay (2021) and Safer at Home (2021) show us the way to madness, indoors madness.

The Stay (2021) centers on two couples who rent a secluded house for a weekend getaway, only to encounter an odd caretaker while facing a dangerous secret.

Scott Hamm, known for being one of the supporting actors in The Karate Kid (1984) spin-off series Cobra Kai (2018– ), is the producer, writer, and director of the movie, being his debut behind the cameras. He also stars in the film, together with Michele Martin, Rob Mayes, Nija Okoro, and Kipp Tribble.

The movie is available on-demand. Here you can watch its trailer.

On the other side, Safer at Home (2021) takes place in a situation that, sadly, many of us are living and suffering around the world due to this very strange global pandemic we are into. Two years into the pandemic, a group of friends throw a wild online party. After taking ecstasy, things go terribly wrong and the safety of their homes becomes more terrifying than the raging chaos outside.

Will Wernick, the director of the horror and mystery escape-room-style flicks No Escape (2020) and Escape Room (2017), is the writer, producer, and director of Safer at Home (2021). The story has been co-written by the director, together with Lia Bozonelis and John Ierardi.

Alisa Allapach, Adwin Brown, Katie L. Hall, Jocelyn Hudon, Dan J. Johnson, Michael Kupisk, Emma Lahana, Daniel Robaire, and Brandon Morales form the main cast.

Safer at Home (2021) opened in limited theaters on February 26, 2021, and is having a digital release via Front Row Filmed Entertainment. You can watch here its trailer.
