Since 2012, the rumors about a sequel for Beetlejuice (1988) has been heard constantly. Tim Burton, the director of the original movie, has stated several times that this film would only be made if Michael Keaton would return to reprise his role. Michael Keaton has mentioned that this is the only sequel he’s interested in doing (although he already did another sequel with Burton, Batman Returns (1992)). And even Winona Ryder has been attached to the project at some points. So far, it all has fallen into oblivion. The 3 early scripts penned by Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg never got the green light.
Now, Tim Burton as one of the producers and the people from Warner Bros. have chosen another writer to try to take the movie back to its tracks. The work is now for Mike Vukadinovich, a young writer whose only work until the date is the interesting sci-fi thriller Rememory (2017). Burton is in theory still set to direct. And no doubt we all hope Michael Keaton is still the only one in consideration to play the crazy disgusting but funny demon of the title. Some other names like Chloë Grace Moretz as Lydia‘s daughter and Eva Green also sound as possible additions to the cast. And, personally, I would more than be glad if they became true.
In the original movie, a young couple, the Maitlands, die in a car accident, but they still reside in their own house as haunted spirits. One day, a yuppie in the most 1980s hipster Newyorker style family move into their house. The poor Maitlands try to scare away the new tenants, but all the efforts are in vain. They only reach the attention of their teenage daughter, Lydia, who sympathizes with the couple of misfortuned ghosts and join their cause. So after running out of ideas, they decide to use the services of another rambunctious spirit called Beetlejuice. But the plan doesn’t turn out as expected.
I supose this is a movie everybody has seen. If not, check out its trailer here:
