The emergence of uncountable podcasts and vodcasts not only opened the gates to a bunch of movie lovers to share their knowledge and opinions about both the world of cinema and series but also all kinds of strange cases, either supernatural or investigating the happenings, but it also has put on the table the possibility for new filmmakers to explore these new hypes. Young people, most of the time without much experience or crafts but with lots of passion for their jobs, who get into wicked situations. Recent titles like Deadstream (2022) or the very funny The Murder Podcast (2021) [read our review here] are good examples of something that we could already call a subgenre of horror, sometimes holding hands but not necessarily with the found-footage style. And the horror-comedy Baby Blue (2023) is another example of this new trend.
The movie centers on a group of teens who stumble across the story of now-dead serial killer Baby Blue and decide he’d be the perfect subject of a true crime vodcast. But when they start digging, they quickly discover that his murder spree never stopped. Now they are being targeted from beyond the grave.
This is the new work of the horror filmmaker and music videos director Adam Mason who has been behind The 13th Sign (2000), Dust (2001), Broken (2006), The Devil’s Chair (2007), Blood River (2009), Luster (2010), Hangman (2015), and Songbird (2020). The screenplay has been co-written by his usual collaborator Simon Boyes.
The main cast in Baby Blue (2023) is formed by Dylan Sprayberry, Cyrus Arnold, Oliver Cooper, Ally Ioannides, Ellen Karsten, Aramis Knight, Sal Lopez, and Lia McHugh.
Produced by Microdose Entertainment, the movie is already out on digital platforms including Tubi.
