The horror and thriller movie Asvins (2023) centers on a group of Youtubers who accidentally unleash a 1500-year-old evil that crosses over from the realm of darkness to the human world.
Tarun Teja Mallareddy debuts as the co-writer and director in a feature film. Yogesh Sudhakara Mallineni is the co-writer and producer of the film.
The main cast in Asvins (2023) is formed by Vasanth Ravi, Muralidaran, Vimala Raman, Saras Menon, Udhaya Deep, and Simran Pareek.
The film is based on the short film Asvins (2020) that the director made during the lockdown. The title refers to the mythological Hindu twin gods Ashvins, associated with medicine, health, and sciences. Also known as the Ashvini Kumaras and Asvinau, they are described as youthful divine twin horsemen, traveling in a chariot drawn by horses that are never weary, and portrayed as guardian deities that safeguard and rescue people by aiding them in various situations.
The main star of the film Vasanth Ravi, stated that “I was initially a bit hesitant to do a horror film right now. I was looking to explore romantic-comedy films. But when I heard the story and read the script of Asvins (2023), I immediately agreed to be part of this project because I did not know if I will get a project like this anytime soon. I also thought this will one kind of a horror film for Tamil cinema”.
Netflix has the streaming distribution rights for the movie and will open digitally sometime after its theatrical release in India on June 23, 2023.
