This past Tuesday, Darren Aronofsky’s latest movie Mother! (2017) premiered at the Venice Film Festival. And in fact, opinions were quite divided. Part of the audience called the film “a masterpiece” while another group was booing it after the screening. For example, Travis Johnson of Filmink calling the movie a “dense, delirious, playful and serious work of capital A art, and easily the most ambitious film to come out of a major studio since Kubrick died“. The rest of us mortals will have to wait until the theatrical release next week to have our own opinion.

mysterious The plot follows a young woman whose tranquil life with her husband at their country home is disrupted by the arrival of a mysterious couple. The movie is written and directed by Darren Aronofsky and is starred by Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kristen Wiig, Domhnall Gleeson, Brian Gleeson, Jovan Adepo and Stephen McHattie.
