TAPE is a community arts charity which delivers creative activities and support for people of all ages. One of the main vehicles for this work is community feature film production. For over 10 years, TAPE has supported people to find an aspirational home for their creative ideas and talents; the screen industry has no such presence in North Wales outside of our work which is built on inclusion, social support and practical, meaningful opportunities.
One of their most recent productions is Approaching Shadows (2021), a story of true love and the acceptance of death, told through the vehicle of a horror-road movie.
Celebrating their golden wedding anniversary, Edward and Violet Knights travel to rural North Wales for a short, romantic break. Still very much in love, the couple spend a quiet, intimate evening reminiscing contentedly and sharing untold stories. As the evening draws to a close, Edward is subjected to an horrific and brutal assault at a cash machine. The attackers bundle him into a mobile home and drive away. Alone and behind the wheel of his car for the first time, Vi searches desperately for Edward through the beautiful isolation of the North Wales countryside. Lost and out of communication in an increasingly unfamiliar and frightening world, Vi attempts to keep up with the abductors, in a desperate attempt to rescue her husband.
Roque Cameselle and Andrew Turner are the directors of the film. They were also responsible for comedy-drama British Winters (2016). Steve Swindon is producing and was the writer of the film.
The mainc cast in Approaching Shadows (2021) is formed by Serena Evans, Alan Benbow, Sean Jones, and Neil Crud.
The movie had its premiere in London on December 3, 2021. This month had its digital release through Bohemia Media.
