Son is an upcoming horror thriller about a young boy who falls ill to a mysterious sickness. His mother must decide how far she will go to protect him from terrifying forces in her past. But that’s not all, because as a child, the mother had to escape from a demonic cult. Her past catches up with her as its members infect her young son with an insidious disease, the cure for which is more terrifying than she can imagine.
The movie has been described by the producers as an hybrid between Let the Right One In (2008) and The VVitch: A New-England Folktale (2015), two pretty different movies that have in common their intensity, horrific staging and the fact that they changed the conception of their own genres becoming instant cult classics.
Most of the cast for the movie is yet to be announced, but we know it will be starred by Emile Hirsch, known for a bunch of popular titles like Speed Racer (2008), Killer Joe (2011), The Darkest Hour (2011), The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016), An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn (2018), Freaks (2018), and Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood (2019) among others, together with one of the young new faces in horror movies, Andi Matichak, who has starred as Laurie Strode’s granddaughter in Halloween (2018) and will reprise the role in the sequels Halloween Kills (2020) and Halloween Ends (2021), as well as participating in other horror films like Assimilate (2019).
Son has been written and will be directed by multi-award-winning Irish filmmaker Ivan Kavanagh, known for his horror-oriented movies Tin Can Man (2007) and The Canal (2014), and the western Never Grow Old (2019) also starring Emile Hirsch.
Son is a co-production between Belladonna Productions, Elastic Film and Park Films. Filming is set to start in January 2020.
