The woods of Australia still host many myths and undiscovered animals, as well as deadly ones. In a country where giant spiders sneak into people’s homes and killer ants cap on your backyard, almost anything could kill you. And if reality is this deadly just imagine how far fantasy could go.
In Carnifex (2022), as Australia recovers from unprecedented bushfires, Bailey, an aspiring documentary maker, joins conservationists Grace and Ben as they travel deep into the Australian outback to track and record animals in an area being considered by the government for development. As night falls, the well-equipped trio discovers a new terrifying species.
This is the debut feature film of Sean Lahiff, who has achieved some awards with his short films and editing feature films. Shanti Gudgeon, who has been a writer for the TV shows Wolf Creek (2016–2017) and Nowhere Boys (2013–2018), is the author of the screenplay.
The main cast in Carnifex (2022) is formed by Alexandra Park, Sisi Stringer, Harry Greenwood, Brendan Rock, and Darren Gilshenan.
The movie had its premiere at the Sitges Film Festival in October 2022, and it also was part of the Adelaide Film Festival in Australia. Now, it is coming out in Australia on digital on December 1, 2022.
