Alien: Covenant prolog: The Crossing. The link between Prometheus and Alien: Covenant

This weekend Alien: Covenant (2017) is finally hitting theaters in several countries in the world. The movie that works as a sequel to Prometheus (2012) but also gets us closer to the events of the first movie of the franchise, Alien (1979), is surrounded by both expectation and skepticism. But although probably it will raise more negative reviews than euphoric responses, it is to expect this new Ridley Scott exploitation of his most successful film’s legacy will be a box office success. Because, who are we to fool here, we want to see the Xenomorph! We want to see chest-bursting and face-hugging! We want the creature H.R. Giger created back in our lives.

Greedy Hollywood producers and smart Ridley Scott know that, they are well aware of our weakness. And although the media is more global now than ever and it is not so easy to make a successful marketing campaign that everybody is talking about as it was, for example, a decade ago, there are still a few effective tricks. And the little piece of candy we present here is a nice one.

Because we the fans are wondering what happens after Prometheus (2012)? How comes in Alien: Covenant (2017) the is a new fresh crew of unaware astronauts? Why regarding all the released trailers and stills shared, Michael Fassbender’s David seems to be among this new crew but Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw is not? What happened to those 2 only survivors of the spaceship Prometheus? Well, as a warming up of the motors for the new Alien film, 20th Century Fox released a couple of weeks ago this little clip. After a brief introduction by Ridley Scott comes a sort of short film, kind of like missing scenes, where some of these facts are explained. It doesn’t solve much but it has sense. And, for sure, it gets you in the mood for Alien: Covenant (2017).
