The people who have seen the movie Surrogate (2022) claim that it has many similarities with that little tale that became an underground cult classic called The Babadook (2014). Both are the debut feature of the writer and director, both are not pretentious old-school horror but with a plot twist to surprise the audience, both simple yet scary and intriguing, and Surrogate (2022) also might become one of the must-sees of its season.
Surrogate (2022) is a ghost horror about a single mother and nurse Natalie who falls mysteriously ill and struggles to stop her family from being destroyed.
David Willing, who achieved some awards with his short film My Little Life (2017), is the producer, co-writer, and director of the movie. Beth King is also the co-writer of the screenplay.
The main cast for Surrogate (2022) is led by Kestie Morassi, who has also taken part in the horror films Darkness Falls (2003) and Wolf Creek (2005), playing the role of Natalie, and Jane Badler, forever immortalized for the role of evil mice-eater alien invader Diana in the hit TV series V (1984-1985). Taysha Farrugia, Louise Siversen, Darcy Kent, Ellie Stewart, Matthew Crosby, Ellie Tevelis, Kate Cole, and Jennifer Vuletic complete the cast.
“My favorite horror films are great pieces of drama then add the scares, such as Ring (2002), The Others (2001) and The Exorcist (1973), all of which influenced Surrogate (2022)”, stated the writer and director David Willing. “Fans of horror and cinema alike can expect an exciting and terrifying ghost story with an intriguing mystery and plenty of scares in 90 minutes”.
The movie will be available on September 2, 2022, on Amazon Prime Video and on September 16, 2022, on Tubi and GoogleTV via Indie Rights.
