Acclaimed horror thriller "The Summoned" is out this week

Horror-thriller The Summoned (2022) has been described as a Faustian morality tale. This intense indie film focuses on two high-profile couples forced to examine the cost of success when they’re invited to an exclusive self-help retreat where their ancestors sold their souls’ generations prior.

In the movie, Elijah and his rock-star girlfriend Lyn are forced into making the ultimate choice when they and another couple are invited to an exclusive self-help retreat run by the enigmatic Dr. Frost. As Elijah struggles with the emotionally distant Lyn and is tempted by a sensual fellow attendee, he discovers that he’s been summoned to settle a supernatural debt that dates back generations.

This is the debut feature film as a director and producer from actor Mark Meir. Yuri Baranovsky, an awards-winner writer from his work in Leap Year (2011–2012), has been in charge of the screenplay.

Emma Fitzpatrick, known for Take Back the Night (2021), In Time (2011), and The Social Network (2010), leads the main cast that also includes J. Quinton Johnson, Angela Gulner, Salvador Chacon, Frederick Stuart, and the director Mark Meir in a supporting role.

The Summoned (2022) had its world premiere at the Overlook Film Festival where it got mostly positive reviews. Now, it is scheduled for a digital release from XYZ Films on July 7, 2022.
