A vampire romance novelist must defend herself against real-life vampires in "Red Snow"
Dennice Cisneros in Red Snow (2021)

Last weekend, the writer that perhaps most popularized the vampire-romance genre with her The Vampire Chronicles series of novels, Anne Rice, passed away. Coincidentally, today we talk about a horror movie that centers on a struggling vampire romance novelist who must defend herself against real-life vampires during Christmas. A coincidence? I must say… yes, of course, it is a coincidence.

Red Snow (2021) centers on Olivia, a vampire romance novelist who is spending her Christmas holidays alone at her deceased mother’s cabin in Lake Tahoe. One night, an injured bat slams against her window. Olivia takes the wounded animal inside her garage to nurse it back to health. The next morning, Olivia is surprised to discover that the bat has transformed into a handsome vampire named Luke. Olivia stocks up on pig’s blood from the local butcher to feed her new houseguest and soon the weakened vampire is up on his feet and talking. The unlikely companions get to know each other and start to form a tenuous friendship, but Olivia grows suspicious of Luke’s intentions as his past begins to catch up with him.

This is the second movie from awards winner producer, writer, and director Sean Nichols Lynch after his debut with mystery drama Prep School (2015).

The main cast of Red Snow (2021) is formed by Dennice Cisneros, Nico Bellamy, Laura Kennon, Alan Silva, Edward Ewell, Olivia Pintz, and veteran actor Vernon Wells, known for his roles in the 1980s and 1990s classics Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981), Weird Science (1985), Commando (1985), Innerspace (1987), Fortress (1992), and Space Truckers (1996), among others, playing a mysterious private eye named Julius King.

Red Snow (2021) has been on a long list of genre film festivals after its premiere at Panic Fest on April 14, 2021, including Portland Horror Film Festival, FrightFest London, IFI Horrorthon, New York City Horror Film Festival, Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre, Another Hole in the Head, and Horrible Imaginings Film Festival, amongst others, where it has collected several awards and nominations. Now, it is scheduled for a DVD and digital release by 4Digital Media on December 28, 2021.
