A tough priest with a troubled past must fight a demon in "Exorcist Vengeance"

If vampires were dominant in the horror movies in the 1990s and zombies had their little golden age at the dawn of the new century, I think it is notable how exorcism movies are becoming the most popular subgenre in the horror scene in the last decade. Now we have a new title to add to the list, only this time it tries to bring something else to the story since the filmmakers have called it The Exorcist (1973) meets Death Wish (1974) meets Knives Out (2019). Let’s take a look at Exorcist Vengeance (2022).

A possession spooker with state-of-the-art special effects, the film tells of a tough priest, someone the Vatican calls to do their dirty work. When a prominent family is terrorized by a demonic force, the priest is called upon by Bishop Canelo to root out the evil, but soon realizes the solution to this mystery is tied to his own past. He must find the killer and stop the Devil’s hold on the family before it’s too late.

This is the new movie from the tandem formed by director and producers Scott Jeffrey and Rebecca Matthews, responsible for a wide list of low-budget horror films including Bad Nun: Deadly Vows (2019), Bats (2021), HellKat (2021), Hatched (2021), and The Gardener (2021). The screenplay has been written by Matthew B.C., also the writer of Medusa: Queen of the Serpents (2020), and Jeff Miller, the writer of a bunch of horror titles like Hellblock 13 (1999), Head Cheerleader Dead Cheerleader (2000), Jolly Roger: Massacre at Cutter’s Cove (2005), Axe Giant: The Wrath of Paul Bunyan (2013), The Burning Dead (2015), ClownTown (2016), Inoperable (2017), The Toybox (2018), Ouija House (2018), and Dolls (2019).

Exorcist Vengeance (2022) is starring Robert Bronzi, famous for being a Charles Bronson look-alike and a habitual of the works of the filmmakers, and the veteran Steven Berkoff remembered for his role of villain Orlov in James Bond’s Octopussy (1983) and also present in A Clockwork Orange (1971), Outland (1981), Beverly Hills Cop (1984), and Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985). Nicola Wright, Sarah Alexandra Marks, Chrissie Wunna, Elizabeth McNally, Adrienne Grant, Nicole Nabi, and Anna Liddell complete the main cast.

Exorcist Vengeance (2022) is set for a digital and DVD release on February 8, 2022, by Uncork’d Entertainment. Watch here its official trailer
