The Giant (2019) is an independent USA and France production that can be considered a mystery thriller, but it also has its dosage of horror. Because growing up as a teenager in a small town might not always be easy, but when suicides, disappearances, and killings are surrounding your everyday things can get even less fun.
The movie centers on how Charlotte’s life is changed forever when the teenager’s small Georgia town is shaken by the beginning of a series of murders on the same night that her missing boyfriend coincidentally reappears. As an unknown killer on the loose preys on young women over the course of a summer, Charlotte has to navigate this new danger while also struggling to recover from the trauma of her mother’s recent suicide. Forced to recognize the world’s indifference and lack of easy explanations, Charlotte must reconcile with her adolescent past as she faces an increasingly uncertain future, in this coming-of-age drama tinged with elements of horror and the supernatural.
The Giant (2019) is the debut feature film of writer and director David Raboy. It is based on his short film of the same title that was nominated for the Golden Pardino in the International Competition of Locarno International Film Festival in 2012. Odessa Young, one of the stars in Assassination Nation (2018), is the protagonist of the film in a cast that is completed by Ben Schnetzer, Jack Kilmer, Madelyn Cline, Danny Ramirez, P.J. Marshall, Samantha Binkerd, Nicholas Cirillo, Ezekiel Ajeigbe, and Taylor Hanks.
After international festivals run last year including its presence in Toronto International Film Festival, San Sebastián Film Festival, and American Film Festival, The Giant (2019) is scheduled to be available on Video on Demand on November 13, 2020, via Vertical Entertainment.
