Shudder is this week increasing the platform collection of intense horror thrillers with the acquisition of Shook (2021), a movie taking to the extreme the dangers of an allienate modern day society spending more time in front of our smart electronic devices than dealing with real life people. There even exist the new figure of Social Media Stars, some of them with no apparent talent at all, but it is amazing how the list of Instagram or YouTube celebrities is getting as engrossed as their fortunes.
Shook (2021) is centered on Mia, a Social Media star who becomes the target of an online terror campaign, she has to solve a series of tests to prevent people she cares about from getting murdered. But is it real? Or is it just a game at her expense?
Jennifer Harrington is the director of Shook (2021). It is her second feature film after thriller Housekeeping (2015) and awarded short films Cargo (2008) (winner of Best Thriller Short in Philadelphia FirstGlance Film Festival and Most Intense Film in Seattle True Independent Film Festival) and Changing of the Guard (2004) (winner of Best Student Short Film in the International Festival of Cinema and Technology). She has also been author of the screenplay based in a story by Alesia Glidewell, winner of the HRIFF Award at Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival in 2014 with her short film Small Fish (2013).
Daisye Tutor, Grant Rosenmeyer, Nicola Posener, Emily Goss, Octavius J. Johnson, and Stephanie Simbari form the main cast for Shook (2021).
The movie is produced by Tara L. Craig with music by celebrated electronic artist and Italians Do It Better label owner Johnny Jewel, and tracks from his cult hit bands Chromatics, Symmetry, and Glass Candy.
