Although Seance (2021) is his debut feature film, Simon Barrett has been involved with horror filmmaking for two decades. His are the screenplays for the B-movies Dead Birds (2004), Frankenfish (2004), and Red Sands (2009), that were followed by the notorious films A Horrible Way to Die (2010), You’re Next (2011), The Guest (2014), and Blair Witch (2016). After directing the segment “Tape 49” in V/H/S/2 (2013) now he presents his first full film as the writer and director.

Seance (2021) is a horror and mystery movie centering on Camille, a young woman who arrives at a high-class academy following one of the student’s untimely and violent death. At the prestigious Fairfield Academy, an elite boarding school for girls, six friends jokingly engage in a late-night ritual, calling forth the spirit of a dead former student who reportedly haunts their halls. Before morning, one of the girls is dead, leaving the others wondering what they may have awakened.

Suki Waterhouse, a young actress prolific in horror films being present in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016), The Bad Batch (2016), Assassination Nation (2018), Future World (2018), and Burn (2019), plays the lead. With her, Madisen Beaty, Inanna Sarkis, Ella-Rae Smith, Stephanie Sy, Megan Best, Jade Michael, Djouliet Amara, and Seamus Patterson also star.

Seance (2021) is Rated R for bloody horror violence, language, and some drug use. In February 2021, RLJE Films acquired U.S. distribution rights to the film and set it for a May 21, 2021, release, with a Shudder premiere to follow. Here you can watch its official trailer.
