Normally I like to start the articles with some joke, or some -perhaps too- serious opinion or perception on the subject the movie centers on. But, this time, I think I’m going to skip it because the plot of Slaxx (2020) is already bizarre enough. A pair of killer jeans, but not in the most traditional way the expression is used.
In the movie, a possessed pair of jeans is brought to life to punish the unscrupulous practices of a trendy clothing company. Shipped to the company’s flagship store, Slaxx proceeds to wreak carnage on staff locked in overnight to set up the new collection.
This blood-splattering horror-comedy is written and directed by Elza Kephart, a former Art Department crew member who has participated in big titles like RED 2 (2013) or X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), and who debuted as a feature film director with another horror-comedy entitled Graveyard Alive (2003). Her long-time collaborator Patricia Gomez has co-written the screenplay.
Slaxx (2020) is produced by EMA Films, the same people that brought Turbo Kid (2015). The main cast is formed by Romane Denis, Brett Donahue, Sehar Bhojani, Kenny Wong, Tianna Nori, Erica Anderson, Stephen Bogaert, and Jonathan Emond.
Along 2020, the movie was part of several genre festivals like Fantasia International Film Festival, Fantasy Filmfest, and Sitges Film Festival, where it was nominated for Best Film in the Midnight X-Treme category. Now, it is scheduled for an online release on Shudder on March 18, 2021. Watch here the official trailer for Slaxx (2020).
